Ludwig’s Jewelers is a member of the American Gem Society. Membership is earned by achieving advanced gemological knowledge and adhering to a rigid code of ethics. Only one in twenty jewelers meets these requirements, and we are proud to be among this elite group. In addition, educational examinations must be passed yearly to maintain membership, keeping our team knowledgeable in the field.

Being part of our local community is important to our team, and we enjoy giving back to the community throughout the year. From supporting our local non-profit organizations, to volunteering our time, we believe in giving back to the wonderful community that has helped to make Ludwig’s an historical part of the community since 1877.

Whatever your special occasion - an engagement, birthday or a “just for me” gift – Ludwig’s will always be there to help you discover just the right piece, or to help you design it!

Our History

In 1877 Chambersburg was being rebuilt after the destruction it incurred during the Civil War. With the town beginning a new start around him, George Ludwig was determined to start a jewelry store on Main St. As the town thrived so did his business, and he eventually passed the store on to his brother, William, in 1902.

He was recognized for his unique window displays and local advertising. William died in 1926, after which the store moved on through various changes and persevered through the Great Depression. William’s son Walter came back to the business after serving as a forestry officer under Gov. Gifford Pinchot.

Old Ludwig AdAfter World War II, Walter’s son Bill came back to Chambersburg and took over the family jewelry store. He modernized it while staying true to the store’s history and antique display cases. He became a registered jeweler with the American Gem Society, adhering to their ethical and educational standards. Bill was well known in the community and could engage anyone in conversation.

Two of Bill’s daughters, Ann and Jane, came into the business full time and Emily part-time after retiring from teaching. This fifth generation of family ownership has all received specialized training in fine jewelry. Today, you can find two generations of the Ludwig family, with the additions of Kyle and Lacey, here to help you find a special piece that will be part of your own family history.
